Home Base Associate Clinical Director of Neuropsychology Services
The MGH Department of Psychiatry is recruiting for a full-time doctoral level Neuropsychologist to serve as the Associate Clinical Director of Neuropsychology Services at Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program. This position reports to the Clinical Director of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) & Brain Health and serves as a key component of the Home Base Clinical Leadership team responsible for implementation of the various new and exciting neuropsychology programs at Home Base. The Associate Clinical Director will provide overall management for the Neuropsychological, Cognitive Rehabilitation and Cognitive Health Services provided at Home Base. The Associate Clinical Director is responsible for providing clinical services and support to implement, evaluate and advance the neuropsychology team in the Intensive Clinical Programs and Outpatient Clinic at Home Base. They will promote the professional development of neuropsychology service clinicians at Home Base, provide exemplary clinical services to patients in area of practice, and model excellence and quality service to staff.
Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program, is dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war for Veterans, Service Members and their Families through world-class clinical care, wellness, education and research. Home Base operates the first and largest private-sector clinic in the nation devoted to healing invisible wounds of war such as post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, co-occurring substance use disorder, military sexual trauma, family relationship challenges and other issues associated with military service. Home Base currently employs approximately 125 individuals representing 95 FTEs. Recently the program consolidated into one patient-centered site in the Charlestown Navy Yard and moved to our new National Center of Excellence at the end of September 2018. The Neuropsychology services continue to grow at Home Base and this position will ensure that administrative management, clinical processes, staffing and infrastructure are well aligned to support such growth.
The position consists of 70% (0.7 FTE) clinical work at Home Base, and 30% (0.3 FTE) administrative and supervisory roles.
The clinical component includes:
" All responsibilities of test selection, administration, scoring and interpretation of cognitive test results.
" Training and directing technicians as needed (including postdoctoral fellows and/or psychometricians).
" Writing integrated neuropsychological reports in a timely fashion and communicating impressions to referring providers as needed.
" Providing feedback on results, impressions, and recommendations to Veterans and Service Members (in person and/or via scheduled telephone feedback).
" Maintains personal clinical practice productivity at or above the budgeted level or as adjusted based on mutual agreement with the Chief of TBI & Brain Health Service and Clinical Director for TBI and Brain Health.
Additional responsibilities include the following:
" In collaboration with the Clinical Director of TBI & Brain Health; interviews, hires, orients, trains, evaluates staff on neuropsychology services at Home Base;
" Provides input regarding the clinical performance of staff for performance reviews and completes performance reviews for neuropsychology staff and for clinicians. Discusses clinical narratives as part of performance review process for all neuropsychology staff.
" Designs and implements activities to monitor, improve, and evaluate neuropsychological clinical practice in the intensive clinical programs and outpatient clinic.
" Assists in creating a mechanism to capture best practices and helps in implementing activities, programs and initiatives to ensure that staff always strives to provide best practices.
" Works collaboratively with the Clinical Director of TBI & Brain Health and clinical administrative leadership coordinator to ensure an environment of quality and safety through implementation of quality improvement programs.
" Works collaboratively with Clinical Director for TBI & Brain Health to ensure proper staffing for each area of clinical practice so that service demands in the critical care areas are met.
" Ensures that services provided are rendered in accordance with Hospital and Dept. policies and procedures and works with clinical administrative leadership to implement activities and programs accordingly.
" Communicates with staff and leadership to ensure effective interaction and appropriate resolution of problems. Assists, as necessary, in the training of physicians, nurses and other patient care personnel in neuropsychology.
" Keeps current on advances within the profession by attending related seminars and meetings and by serving on various committees as requested by Chief of TBI & Brain Health
" Availability for urgent clinical situations and emergencies on an as needed basis via pager, etc.
" Maintain personal clinical practice productivity at or above the budgeted level or as adjusted based on mutual agreement with the Chief of TBI & Brain Health Service and Clinical Director for TBI and Brain Health.
" Participates in decisions with Senior Administrative and Finance Director/program leadership and leadership regarding neuropsychology service staffing and budgeting, and development of proposals for new services.
" Reviews patient satisfaction and quality management data for the Home Base medical services, actively participate in performance improvement processes, and develop corrective action plans as needed to remedy any deficiencies.
" Provides oversight and mentoring of Home Base Neuropsychology staff. Complete an annual performance review for each clinician to be used by the Chief of TBI & Brain Health as part of his/her overall performance review for the clinician.
Candidates should be: a) Board certified in neuropsychology (preferred) or a licensed psychologist with a specialization in neuropsychology b) Able to demonstrated a track record of leadership, administrative oversight, program planning and management in an academic mental health setting c) dedicated to excellence in clinical care, teaching and mentorship; and d) qualified for an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School at the rank of instructor or above. Eligibility for licensure in Massachusetts is required. Previous clinical experience with traumatic brain injury is required. Previous clinical experience with post-traumatic stress disorder, alcohol and substance abuse and/or military populations is highly desirable. Prior military service and/or experience working at MGH or in an academic medical center a plus. The Massachusetts General Hospital is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
