Job Posting Title: Psychology Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
Based on funding from the Wounded Warrior Project, the SHARE (Sharing Hope and Recovery Excellence) Military Initiative at Shepherd Center (see SHARE Military Initiative - Shepherd Central) in Atlanta, Georgia is seeking a two-year post-doctoral psychology research fellow to assist in conducting research to evaluate the effectiveness of in-person, videoconferencing-based, and hybrid systems of care for military veterans and active duty service members with acquired brain injury (ABI) and associated psychological disorders. The fellowship will start in summer/fall 2021.
The SHARE Military Initiative began in 2008 to provide a continuum of rehabilitation care for service men and women who have sustained mild to moderate traumatic brain injuries, along with co-occurring PTS (Post Traumatic Stress), while serving in post-9/11 conflicts. Since SHARE's inception, the program has served more than 450 individuals from all service branches. The program typically treats 15-20 injured service members for a period of eight to twelve weeks.
This new post-doctoral research fellowship offers a unique opportunity to develop research skills specific to military populations with ABI and associated psychological disorders. The fellow will gain experience in designing and conducting basic research projects, as well as skills in scientific presentation, manuscript writing, and extramural funding acquisition. Although the fellow will focus on research responsibilities, they will also engage in psychological and cognitive evaluation and treatment of military personnel with ABI, completing clinical hours sufficient for licensure. Fellowship didactics and seminars in rehabilitation psychology and neuropsychology will be available. The ideal candidate for this fellowship has completed an APA or CPA-approved internship and doctoral degree completion with demonstrated research interests and skills, and particularly as they apply to military populations with ABI. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package including competitive salary, health/dental/vision insurance, CEU opportunities, 403(b) with employer match, paid time off, and more.
