At the heart of our mission: championing policies that strengthen access to essential neuropsychological services.
Our advocates urged lawmakers to support legislation that:
- Expands reimbursement pathways for neuropsychological services, ensuring that more patients receive timely and equitable care;
- Increases CMS payment rates for neuropsychological assessments and interventions;
- Advances the ADAPT Act, which extends Medicare coverage to services provided by advanced psychology trainees, fostering workforce development and increasing access to care.
These meetings not only garnered enthusiastic support from legislators and staff but also firmly established NAN as a leading authority on brain health and neurocognitive care. Our presence on the Hill was a vital step in positioning neuropsychologists as key stakeholders in national health care policy conversations.
While in Washington DC, our leadership team also engaged in high-level strategy meetings with key partners in psychology and behavioral science. We met with Stephen Gillaspy, PhD, Senior Director of the Office of Health Care Financing, and Scott Barstow, Director of Congressional Affairs at the American Psychological Association (APA), to align efforts on critical reimbursement and workforce issues. We also joined Juliane Baron, Executive Director of the Federation of Associations in Behavioral & Brain Sciences (FABBS), to address the alarming cuts to federal research budgets and to strategize on how best to inform and educate Congress and federal agencies about the indispensable role of behavioral science in national research agendas.
The 2025 NAN Day on the Hill was more than a day of meetings, it was a declaration of our commitment to the field, to science, and to the patients we serve. NAN remains steadfast in its advocacy to ensure that neuropsychological services are accessible, valued, and recognized as a cornerstone of brain health care.
