Presented by:
Sandra Baez, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience
Universidad de los Andes (Colombia)
Senior Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI)
Trinity College Dublin

This webinar explores how structural socioeconomic inequality influences brain health trajectories across the lifespan, with a focus on aging and dementia. Drawing from global and regional evidence, the session will examine how macro-level factors—such as education, income distribution, gender inequality, and sociopolitical conditions—impact cognitive aging and increase vulnerability to neurodegenerative conditions. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of integrating social determinants into brain health research and public health strategies to promote equity in aging.

Learning Objectives
After this webinar participants will be able to:
1. Define structural socioeconomic inequality and describe its key components.
2. Explain how inequality impacts brain health in aging and the risk of dementia.
3. Identify key macro-level indicators (e.g., Gini index, education quality, GII index) used in brain health research.

Instruction Level: Intermediate
Target Audience: Neuropsychologists and Trainees
