Advances in the interpretation of neuropsychological tests: Utility of the multivariate approach for the clinical practice

February 19, 2026 | 3:00 PM ET | 1 CE Credit

Presented by: Javier Oltra Cucarella, PhD

Neuropsychological tests are an essential part of the neuropsychological assessment. Interpretation of performance helps the clinician unravel the cognitive processes underlying the cognitive impairment, which is at the core of both the diagnosis process and the intervention programs. For better use of the quantitative data gathered upon neuropsychological assessment, professionals must be aware of evidence-based practices and approaches to better identify true cognitive impairment and malingering. This webinar will focus on evidence-based approaches to the development of normative data needed to interpret performance, as well as on the most useful approach to interpret multivariate quantitative data for the identification of cognitive impairment beyond what would be expected based on normal cognitive variability. In this webinar, the participants will learn how to use and interpret statistical models suited for the identification of cognitive impairment through normative data as well as through successive assessments. Additionally, the participants will learn how mathematical models can be used by clinicians to identify poor effort on neuropsychological measures.

Learning Objectives
After this webinar participants will be able to:
1. Describe statistical approaches for the development and interpretation of performance on neuropsychological tests.
2. Discuss the link between different approaches to the interpretation of performance on neuropsychological tests and diagnosis of cognitive impairment.
3. Apply and interpret quantitative results from measures used in the neuropsychological assessment.
