NATIONAL ACADEMY OF NEUROPSYCHOLOGY PARTICIPATES IN INAUGURAL WOMEN’S ALZHEIMER’S MOVEMENT FORUM
May 19, 2025 – The National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN) was invited to participate in the inaugural Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement (WAM) Forum, hosted by Cleveland Clinic and Maria Shriver on May 19, 2025, at the Keep Memory Alive Event Center in Las Vegas. The Forum brought together top leaders in women’s brain health to spotlight cutting-edge research, honor caregiving and scientific leadership, and drive national attention to Alzheimer’s disease and family caregiving, two issues that disproportionately impact women.
NAN was invited to attend this landmark gathering of scientists, clinicians, advocates, and innovators committed to advancing brain health equity for women. “We are proud to represent the field of neuropsychology in conversations about women’s cognitive health,” said Dr. William Perry, Executive Director and Past President of NAN. “Neuropsychologists play a vital role in the early detection, diagnosis, and management of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, particularly in understanding how sex differences, hormonal changes, and social determinants of health intersect to influence cognitive aging.”
Participation in the WAM Forum aligns with NAN’s broader mission to advance clinical science and advocate for inclusive research that reflects the diverse experiences of women across the lifespan. As the field confronts a projected rise in dementia diagnoses, with women representing two-thirds of those affected, neuropsychology offers critical tools for prevention, intervention, and caregiver support.
Maria Shriver, founder of WAM and chief visionary of the Women’s Comprehensive Health and Research Center at Cleveland Clinic, emphasized the importance of closing historic gaps in women’s health research. NAN shares this vision and remains committed to elevating the role of neuropsychological science in informing public health strategies, shaping policy, and empowering individuals and families impacted by neurodegenerative disease.
