Job Description
Remote Neuropsychologist — 1099 Contract, Part-Time
MARS Memory-Health Network, a leading memory clinic serving patients across southeastern North Carolina, is seeking licensed neuropsychologists to conduct adult evaluations remotely on a part-time, independent-contractor (1099) basis. The position suits a clinician who wants a steady stream of well-prepared cases that fit around your existing practice or schedule.
MARS is an independent, privately owned practice with academic roots: It was founded through the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Knowledge Transfer program, its principals are UNCW faculty, and it runs an in-house postdoctoral training program in clinical neuropsychology. MARS is a trusted referral source for physicians across the region, receiving referrals from as far as the Chapel Hill area. We have worked with remote providers around the country for several years and have a well-developed system for doing so.
Adults are referred for memory and cognitive evaluation. The most common diagnoses are Alzheimer’s, vascular, frontotemporal, and Lewy body dementias, mild cognitive impairment, and mild traumatic brain injury.
- Conduct the clinical interview by Video conference.
- Interpret the test data and write the report, using our report templates.
- Provide feedback to the patient by telephone approximately two weeks after the interview.
- Referrals, scheduling, and all patient-facing administration. You do not recruit or bill patients.
- Test administration by trained psychometricians in our Wilmington clinic, with item-level scored data delivered to you.
- Report templates and quality review.
- Our office communicates with referring providers to obtain medical records and send the referral source the final report.
- Billing and collections. You are paid by MARS, not by insurers, based on the work you do regardless of whether insurance reimburses.
- Two to seven evaluations per week, at a volume you choose.
- No nights or weekends. Interviews and feedback calls are scheduled during clinic hours; report writing is on your own time.
- Reports are expected within an agreed turnaround, so that patients and referring physicians get timely results.
Compensation
Remote providers are paid per evaluation, as a fixed percentage of the Medicare allowed amount for the services billed, regardless of what the insurer actually reimburses. MARS absorbs any shortfall. The percentage and a typical per-evaluation figure are provided on inquiry. Payment is monthly, on a 1099 basis; there are no employee benefits.
Qualifications
- PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited program and an APA-accredited internship.
- Licensed, or license-eligible, at the doctoral level in North Carolina. Psychologists licensed in another state may practice with our North Carolina patients under PSYPACT (an ASPPB Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology).
- Strong preference for completion of a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology, or equivalent experience in dementia assessment. Not required.
- Reliable, private workspace and internet connection suitable for telehealth.
