Banner University Medical Center and the Transplant Surgery team is seeking a Neuropsychologist to join our integrated team and comprehensively serve patients receiving the gift of an organ transplant.
Receiving an organ transplant is a positive, life-changing event coupled with varied emotions for patients and their loved ones. In collaboration with the Transplant Institute, the team transplant Neuropsychologist will: - conduct pre-surgical evaluations for the transplant surgery team - provide follow-up care for patients who experience challenges post-surgery - partner with the integrated transplant sub-teams to deliver excellent care while improving the quality of life of our patients and their family members.
The transplant Neuropsychologist will provide comprehensive psychological services to the transplant recipients, living donors, and their families. Duties include pre-transplant evaluations, outpatient and inpatient clinical consultation, patient and family therapy (e.g., understanding of illness and transplantation procedures, emotional adaptation to chronic illness, adjustment to procedures, adherence to the medical regimen), and collaboration during team meetings and multi-disciplinary conferences regarding transplant listing decisions and patient management strategies.
Responsibilities include: - Screening for substance abuse or dependence, and facilitate treatment - Screening for psychiatric issues, and facilitate treatment - Screening for health literacy and cognitive impairments - Reviewing and mobilizing family support and other resources - Evaluating candidates for transplant or MCS candidacy to optimize compliance and effectivenes - Providing brief, evidenced-based treatment consistent with comprehensive interdisciplinary care to improve patient satisfaction and cost-effectiveness - Managing psychopathology and substance abuse risk - Assessing motivation to improve, barriers to optimal compliance, and stage of change - Assessing motivation to improve, barriers to optimal compliance, and stage of change - Provide input to the transplant & MCS teams as to candidate risk for recidivism (where pertinent) and non-adherence to complex medical regimen
Qualification Requirements: - Ph.D. in Psychology with specialization in Neuropsychology - Must have completed an APA accredited clinical internship licensure by applicable state Board of Psychologist Examiners - New Grads and Experienced Neuropsychologists are encouraged to apply!
